Illustrator Vector Image Trace
Create a line drawing of a character/object. Because we don't have access to tablets, it is to be done on paper with dark pencil or ink. This could be an elaborated doodle, a new creation, a sketch of an object you have in front of you, or a drawing from a photo or image. Keep it fairly simple and approximately half a page. *Important: We are mainly focusing on LINES to capture the subject so consider differentiating line weight (thickness/thinness) to add more contrast and your subject will stand out as your center of interest. Definitely add your own personal style! We will use illustrator to refine our scanned drawings.

- Follow the instructions at the scanner station to bring your image on to the computer.
- Open your file in Adobe Illustrator.
- Click on the drawing using the Selection Tool (black arrow).
- Select Image Trace from the modifications bar at the top - your image will then be vectorized.
- Open the Image Trace Panel (looks like a box with bullet points in it).
- Adjust the Threshold settings if necessary.
- Open the Advanced tab and ensure Ignore White Space is checked.
- File > Export as PNG
- Ensure saving at 300 dpi
- Select to export with a transparent background.
- Click Ok.
